Paper Presentation at the UIA 2023 World Congress in Copenhagen

Copenhagen!
4 days, tens of Km walking amongst adored buildings and public spaces, 1400 photos count, cold rain and one UIA World Congress later:
Good friends and beloved teachers, new acquaintances, great speeches and amazing installations and exhibitions from Schools of Architecture from all around the globe!
My presentation on Emirati housing transformations and a paradoxical contrast between the context and the prevailing typological/morphological solutions - a research work in progress with Magdy Ibrahim, funded by Abu Dhabi University - raised questions after the end of my session.
it has been a vast Congress. I keep UIA's effort to strengthen both geographically and institutionally and bind under its wings the architectural education standards across both the developed North and the global south, with the help and cooperation of both RIBA and UNESCO.
To me, its only disappointment was the 2nd day Plenary session with Margethe Vestager (EU Commission for the Digital Age) and the overhyped Bjarke Ingels, into an elitist presentation of his work at a seemingly well-informed audience! He talked about Hedonistic Sustainability (!) bragging about designjng the whole planet but kept referring to market terms after being asked abut the global south necessities!
Next stop: Barcelona 2026, hopefully with even more light on decarbonizing and decolonizing architecture.
